Another quick stop on our way through Nevada. Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is right off Highway 93 and has 15 free lakeside camping spots. While being so close to the highway was not ideal, it was a great spot to rest our heads for the night. The wildlife refuge offers hiking, fishing, hunting and tons of birding watching as it is a stopover for many migrating birds.
After setting up camp and hanging out lakeside for a bit we realized the highway traffic wasn’t our only source of noise pollution, just on the other side of the mountains behind the lake is the famous Area 51, as well as other military testing facilities. We were startled a few times by loud booms that shook the camper. By the time the sun set things quieted down, the highway traffic slowed and the booms stopped. Overall this was a great place to pull off for a night, next stop…Vegas!
You got some gorgeous photos. Thank you for sharing!
